City Experiences — Publication Ecosystem

Last updated August 19, 2026

Purpose

Define the locked Passionate Vacations City Experiences publication architecture so each city develops through a consistent, scalable product ecosystem without requiring every optional format.

Current Standard

1. 48 Hours in [City] — QUICK EXPERIENCE: Complimentary, 6 pages. First public entry point for the city; simple, practical lead magnet; links naturally to the full paid city guide. 2. The [City] Travel Experience Guide — CORE: Standard / Paid, 10–15 pages. Main city publication covering where to stay, neighborhoods, transportation, major experiences, food/culture, practical considerations, pace, and what travelers should know before choosing. This becomes the source-of-truth research for everything that follows. 3. Before or After Your Cruise: [City] — CRUISE COMPANION: Complimentary, 6 pages. Only for meaningful cruise gateway cities. Focuses on whether travelers should add pre- or post-cruise time and what they can realistically experience. Initial City Experiences development will prioritize cruise gateway cities. 4. Beyond the Must-Sees: Experiencing [City] Differently — PREMIUM: Premium / Paid, typically 20–22 pages, up to 25 only when content warrants it. Optional and created only for cities with enough depth. Combines the earlier Beyond the Must-Sees and Cultural Side concepts: distinctive neighborhoods, culture and history, art and architecture, music and food heritage, local traditions and character, lesser-known attractions, experiences beyond the usual tourist circuit, and deeper context on why places and traditions matter.

Procedure / Steps

For each selected city: (1) build the 48 Hours complimentary publication first; (2) build the Core Standard city guide second; (3) create the cruise companion only when the city is a meaningful cruise gateway; (4) consider the Premium deep-dive only when the destination clearly supports enough distinct material. Research the city comprehensively once and reuse verified research across later publications rather than starting over for each guide. Keep the 48 Hours and cruise companion formats fixed at 6 pages to reduce production complexity.

Key Decisions

New Orleans is the first new City Experiences city. Its production order is 48 Hours in New Orleans first, then New Orleans Travel Experience Guide. Cruise-gateway cities will be prioritized for early City Experiences development. Miami and Fort Lauderdale may potentially be combined in the future because of their geographic and cruise-market relationship, but no decision is locked yet. Las Vegas is already part of the City Experiences category. Beyond the Must-Sees and The Cultural Side are combined into one optional Premium publication rather than maintained as separate specialty guides.
